» Your pool can be easily emptied and stored in a safe place during the winter. However, many people choose to leave their pool up year round. In areas where freezing temperatures occur, there is risk of ice damage. It is recommended to drain, disassemble and store the pool in a safe place when temperatures drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. See "How To Drain Your Pool" section.
Clean pool water thoroughly (If Easy Set Pool make sure the top ring is properly inflated).
Remove the skimmer (if applicable) or any accessories attached to the threaded strainer connector. Replace strainer grid if necessary. Be sure all accessories parts are clean and completely dry before storage.
Plug the Inlet and Outlet fitting from the inside of the pool with the plug provided (sizes 10' and 12'). Close the Inlet and Outlet Plunger Valve (15', 18', and 24').
Remove the ladder (if applicable) and store in a safe place. Be sure the ladder is completely dry before storage.
Remove the hoses that connect the pump and filter to the pool.
Add appropriate winter chemicals. Consult your local pool dealer as different regions vary greatly.
Cover pool with Intex Pool Cover. IMPORTANT: INTEX POOL COVER IS NOT A SAFETY COVER.
Clean and drain pump, filter housing and hoses. Remove and discard old filter cartridge (keep a spare cartridge available for next season).
Bring pump and filter parts indoors and store in a safe and dry area, preferably heated.
STORING POOL FOR WINTER
After draining pool, dry pool liner completely (100%). Sprinkle talcum powder on liner to prevent vinyl from sticking together and to absorb any water you may have missed.
Roll pool liner to avoid creases and relocate to storage area. Place it in original carton if you saved it.
Keep all small parts together with filter pump, manual, and pool, and then place in an area that will remain at room temperature throughout the storage season.
» No. With proper chemicals and filter cartridge replacement, the pump will keep the pool clean from suspended water particles. A pool vacuum should be used to clean the walls and bottom of the pool. Additionally the INTEX KRYSTAL CLEAR TM Saltwater System and maintenance kits will keep your pool clean from algae and bacteria. Depending on the local characteristics of your water condition, it may be desirable to add water softeners, clarifiers, or algaecides.
» Water condition varies from country to country, states, region, and within specific zones and areas. In some regions the water could be "hard water", this is because the water contains excessive minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, thus causing the water to adopt a milky color. Check your local pool supply store for advice on water treatment and balance.
» Yes, in some cases certain types of hardy grass such as Bermuda or St. Augustine can grow through the liner. Before setting up your pool, it is recommended that you clear the area of these types of hardy grasses. INTEX will not be held responsible for grasses that may grow through the ground cloth and / or pool liner, as this is not a manufacturing defect. A ground cloth or tarp may be helpful in preventing this from occurring.
» Yes, you can upgrade your filter pump to a larger model. Make sure the hose fittings are compatible. There are two (2) hose sizes, model 603/604/637/637R/638/638R use 1-1/4” (32mm) hose size (part# 10116 or #11149), and model 635T/636T/633T/634T/FP621/FP622/SF10110/10220/SF15110/15220/SF20110/20220/CG Model 8111 use 1-1/2” (38mm) hose size (part# 11009). You will need two (2) hose adaptors B (part# 10722) when upgrading from 1-1/4” (32mm) to 1-1/2” (38mm) hose fittings. The flow rating of any replacement filter must not exceed the maximum flow rating of the strainer grid on the suction side of filtration system. The maximum flow of the strainer grid is embossed on the strainer grid.
» Yes, the pump is designed to be used with INTEX vacuum system (#58947/58948/ 58949/18947/18948/18949) only. 58947/18947 and 58949/18949 require a minimal flow of 800 gph (3028 lph), and 58948 requires a minimal flow of 2,000 gph (7,570 lph).
» See Trouble Shooting Guide in the Owner’s Manual. Also check the filter cartridge. If it is dirty the water flow will be much less powerful. Replace the cartridge. Also, check the hoses for any pinholes causing water leakage. And check for debris caught in the grating where the hose connects to the filter pump. The hose clamps may also be loose.
» Empty the pool, use a soft brush, mild detergent and water to remove algae stains from the pool liner. Thoroughly rinse and dry before refilling or storage.

» The two ratings relate to different methods of measuring the flow of water from the pump. The Pump Flow Rate is a measurement widely used in the industry by manufacturers to rate the flow of water directly from the pump. This measures the pump’s true capacity to move water.
The System Flow Rate measures the amount of water that the pump moves when it is hooked into a pool system and has to push water through several hoses, suction fittings, filter cartridges and even against the force of gravity when the water is pushed from the filter back up to the pool. For reference, the strainer grids in your pool are always rated in terms of the System flow rate, since they are part of the pool system. Because of the extra force required, the System Flow Rate will always be less than the Pump Flow Rate.

» Due to variations in ambient temperature, PVC parts may become stiffer or softer. To facilitate the connection of the hoses to the black protruding hose connectors on the pool wall, you may use soapy water solution (mix 6 drops of dish detergent in 1/2 a cup of water) to lubricate the hoses and the black protruding hose connectors. Continue installation per owner's manual. Do not use lubricants such as machine oil, industrial oil, or house grease.
» Depending on usage and water conditions, it is recommended that the cartridges be replaced at minimum 2 week intervals. The filter cartridge should be removed and checked at least once a week. It can be partially cleaned by rinsing it off with a garden hose and brush. If it still appears to be dirty, it should be replaced immediately.

» Remove and clean with fresh water and dry all components including hoses. Coat the seals, O-Rings and washers with petroleum jelly (see Owner’s Manual for detailed instructions).
